Wabaseemoong Child Welfare Authority is pleased to announce a new project to explore the history, impact, and long-term effects of colonization on the people and families of the community.
WCWA has commissioned Fawn Wapioke, Cynthia Jourdain, and Ashlee Tom – a team of Ikwewag (Anishinaabe women) with extensive experience in education and community work – to produce a comprehensive report, presentation, and video on this important topic. The project will explore various aspects of colonization that have impacted the families of Wabaseemoong.
The team leading the project brings over 25 years of combined experience in education, project management, and community engagement. They are committed to conducting the research with the utmost care and respect for the community.
Those 25 years of combined experience include as a teacher, a member of the Chiefs Committee on Education, as well as excellent facilitation and interviewer skills. The combined experience has given the team of Ikwewag an inherent understanding that the stories are a sensitive topic and will be conducting interviews in a way that creates a feeling of safety and mutual respect for everyone, as well as providing cultural and mental health support for anyone that needs support.
